The Peters Township Basketball Association (PTBBA) provides recreational basketball opportunities to boys in grades 1 through 12, and girls in grades 1 through 8. These opportunities allow children to participate in basketball at the recreational level.

FALL/WINTER RECREATION PROGRAM

The program runs from late October thru March, with a break in between for Christmas. The divisions are as follows:  1st and 2nd grade boys, 1st and 2nd grade girls, 3rd and 4th grade boys, 3rd and 4th grade girls, 5th and 6th grade boys, 5th and 6th grade girls, 7th and 8th grade boys, 7th and 8th grade girls.

There will be two sessions per week.  One session will be devoted to skill development and will be led by the PTBBA’s instructors with the help of the volunteer coaches.  The other weekly session is designated for games.

The divisions up to 4th grade allow for friend and coach requests, and is focused on instructional training with coaches serving as game referees with the intent to provide further instruction.  The teams for the older divisions (5th-8th grades) are determined by a draft, with the intent to make them as competitively even as possible.  The games in the 5th and 6th and 7th and 8th grade divisions will be refereed by a PIAA official, and high school student-trainee referee, keeps scores and standings and has playoffs at the conclusion of the season.

SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM

The PTBBA frequently offers a summer recreational program to boys and girls in grades 1 through 8. This program is typically smaller in size compared to our primary seasons and occurs in July-Aug.  The PTBBA varies the structure of the summer program based on the number of participants, but the focus is on skill development and training.

HIGH SCHOOL RECREATION PROGRAM

The PTBBA also offers a program to boys in grades 9 through 12. This program typically begins in Mid-November and runs through the end of January. Boys participating in this program meet once a week on Sundays. The teams are coached by the boys and follow “Equal Playing Time” guidelines. Regular certified referees are provided, and the PTBBA provides supervision of these activities as well.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The success of these programs is based on the volunteers, moms and dads that step up to act as coaches. All coaches MUST BE REGISTERED with the township relative to the ACT 33 and 34 clearances. If you are interested in coaching your name must be on the list of active coaches maintained by the Parks & Recreation department. To initiate the process to obtain clearances, click here!

The PTBBA expects all parents participating in the program as coaches and fans to follow the guidelines established by the Recreation Department relative to behavior. The recreation program is designed to allow children to participate in basketball in an environment that allows them to have an enjoyable experience. Every attempt will be made to create evenly distributed teams. It is the responsibility of the parents to ensure the games are played with a high level of sportsmanship. It’s about the kids, not the parents.
